Production Releases 3.2.1 to 4.2.2

NetTerm 4.2.2 - Production Release (Updated 8-31-97)

  • Added native Windows support for German and both traditional and simplified Chinese.
  • Added window sizing and maximize ability. The window resize logic is controlled by the keyword “ScreenReSize” located in the netterm.ini file.

1. If ScreenReSize is set to 2 (the default), the selected font will be adjusted to the new window size. If the selected font is TrueType, it will be scaled to the new size. If the selected font is fixed, the closest font size will be selected.

2. If ScreenReSize is set to 1, the number of rows/columns will be adjusted for the new window size. This should only be used when the selected host supports NAWS (the ability for a telnet client to send information to the host about the new window size). Font size is held constant when ScreenReSize is set to 1.

3. When ScreenReSize is set to 2, we have found the best results are produced with the TrueType “Courier New, Bold” font.

  • Added the option to display the current cursor row/column instead of the time on the status bar.
  • Added the ability to define International keyboard mapping by character in addition to scan code.
  • Added the ability to stop a script started by a QuickButton, by a left mouse click on the QuickButton that started the script.
  • Corrected a problem with the Locator Controller.
  • Added the option to send IBM PC keyboard scan codes to the host.
  • Added the option to add a carriage return to the received line feeds in transparent printing.
  • Corrected a problem when trying to print highlighted text that spans a single row.

NetTerm 4.2.1 - Production Release (Updated 6-15-97)

  • Added emulation support for Televideo 925 and initial support for Wyse 50.
  • Added the 'menu' command to scripting. This allows a script to perform any menu function.
  • Added the 'zmodemsend' command to scripting. This allows files to be uploaded from a script.
  • Fixed a problem related to flashing Chinese characters. NetTerm now fully supports the Unionway Asian 97 software package.
  • Worked with Sam Chang to make available a patch to convert NetTerm to traditional Chinese.
  • Corrected a problem on Windows 3.1 when the scroll back buffer exceeded 8000 lines.

NetTerm 4.2 - Production Release (Updated 5-18-97)

  • Added emulation support for the QNX 2 system.
  • Added logic to support the DEC Locator Controller. This allows a host program to communicate directly to a serial port on the workstation and is normally used for barcode readers and weight scales. The Locator Controller is turned on by the ESC[7i sequence and is turned off by the ESC[6i sequence. All data sent from the host and received from the Locator Controller serial port is sent to the host program after the controller is turned on. Control is returned to the normal NetTerm functions when the Locator Controller is turned off. The Locator Controller is defined in the Options-Setup Locator Controller dialog panel.
  • Added xmodem and CompuServe B+ file transfer protocols. A request for a CompuServe B+ file upload/download is automatically detected by NetTerm. The ANSI emulation type must be used for the CompuServe host.
  • Added logic to set Caps Lock and Num Lock to last setting when focus is lost, then restored.
  • Corrected color display problem with the PROGRESS database under SCO UNIX.
  • Corrected a problem related to the Netscape Communicator beta series. This version changed the way it passed the telnet URL to NetTerm.

  • Added initial support for IBM-3101, 3151, 3161 and 3163 emulations.
  • Removed the requirement for Carrier Detect on direct connections.
  • Added the ability to define up to three sets of QuickButtons with eight buttons each. Clicking the right mouse button anyplace on the QuickButtons will change to the next set.
  • Added the ability to start programs and switch key definitions with the QuickButtons.
  • Changed the modem selection logic. Currently the modem communications port and related information applies to all hosts that use a modem or TAPI. This has been changed to store the information by host. Although every effort has been made to make this as transparent as possible, it would be a good idea to configure each host that uses a modem or TAPI connection with this release.
  • Added logic to allow the scroll buffer to be reviewed even when new messages are being received on the network.
  • Corrected a focus problem when the input window is added to the status bar. If the focus is currently in the input window, and NetTerm loses focus, when it returns, the focus will be returned to the input window, not the main NetTerm window.
  • Corrected ANSI color problems in the ANSI-BBS emulation.
  • Corrected a problem with the 'Append to file' feature on the screen capture option.
  • Corrected a problem with the 'Add CR to received LF' option.
  • Corrected a problem with MAXINSTANCE. If NetTerm is started from a shortcut that defines a host, NetTerm would not handle the MAXINSTANCE correctly.
  • Corrected a problem with defining the upload/download directories when the path was extremely long and had spaces in the names.
  • General Maintenance Release.

  • Corrected a cut/paste problem. When selecting text on a single line, release 4.0 would add a carriage return to the selected text.

Release 4.0

  • Added support for MIMI WWW browser calls to NetTerm. This allows WWW site administrators to create a custom phone book entry for their site and pass this information to NetTerm on the client workstation. Complete control of the sites phone book entry, key definition and login script is provided.  See: Detailed Description
  • Added a block copy operation. This allows you to select a block of text by marking the upper left and lower right corners of the block. The block will then be highlighted and normal clipboard copy support can be used to copy the text to the clipboard. The text is selected using the left mouse button combined with the shift key.

  • Corrected a problem with the otp-md5 support for otp/skey. NetTerm was not pasting the entire challenge.
  • Changed QuickButton font so it scales up/down based upon the window size.

NetTerm 3.2.2 - Production Release (Updated 8-29-96)

  • Added an optional text input window within the Status Bar. This option is selected in the desktop dialog box.
  • Added a floating keyboard input window (type-ahead buffer). This allows for keyboard input while the main text display area is being updated. This option has been requested by users of online conferences such as Delphi and other text style 'talk' sessions. The floating window is activated under the Options-Tools menu item.

  • With release 3.2.0, NetTerm will be provided in a self-extracting .exe format. This will allow for easier installation and does not require any steps such as unzipping. The 32 bit version will also contain the Microsoft msvcrt40.dll in the standard distribution.
  • Added a new option under the Options-Setup menu to update the Windows 95/NT registry for Microsoft Internet Explorer users. If selected, this will allow NetTerm to be the telnet client for Internet Explorer.
  • Corrected several problems related to keypad definitions.
  • Added a new icon on the toolbar to allow for starting a FTP client such as CuteFTP.
  • Added a new option in the Desktop dialog box which allows defining command line data to be passed to the FTP client when started. The command line data can be unique for each host.
